Matt’s Take on Episode 8: “The Passenger”
Bashir’s arrogance in his scene with Kira is hilarious. I don’t know what it says about me, but I just like characters who are conceited and convinced that they are something special.
This episode feels like a type of murder-mystery in space. I enjoy following Odo’s investigation throughout the episode but, having already seen the episode, the twist loses any impact.

Where in the world does this Lieutenant Primmin come from, and what the heck happens to him? I have no memory of this character at all. None. Somehow he’s in this episode and then briefly in the next, and then I guess he disappears? He is such an unnecessary character and adds nothing to this episode other than a bit of drama with Odo and Sisko.
I am usually a Julian Bashir defender, but I feel like Alexander Siddig gives an incredibly stilted and wooden performance when Vantika’s consciousness has taken hold of him. I’ll put that down to poor direction, as Siddig is simply better than this.
Overall, this episode is a tolerable watch, but there isn’t much here to get excited about, either.
