Ray’s Take on Episode 17: “Dramatis Personae”
Kira is perpetually pissed off, I gather.
“I SAID ‘Open Hailing Frequencies’ NOT ‘Fire Photon Torpedoes! Did you hit the wrong button, again? This time it’s coming out of your pay.”
“Another One Bites the Dust” – Queen. Either Julian is a truly awful doctor or he just has horrible luck and timing. I’m going to start a running tally of the number of times people die on him.
Ultima Thule was the furthest Northern islands know to the Romans. The Nazis believed it to be the home of the Aryan race and the Thule Society, a group dedicated to Teutonic religious tradition and magic that counted many Nazi leaders as members, was named for it. Given the Cardassian Nazi vibe, I thought it was a subtle name choice.

Everyone is starting to act weird. I’m not saying it’s aliens, but…
The 3 Dimensional Chess Set in Sisko’s office was a nice touch.
Odo read his Machiavelli, I gather. After dealing with Cardassians for so long, I imagine it must be second nature by now. Anytime someone says “Do it” I think of Ben Stiller in Starsky and Hutch.
No battle boogie for the melee, but we do get a patented James T. Kirk double fist hammer to the back delivered by the Commander.
So, there’s this really old movie called Aliens, and this lady causes an alien to get sucked out into space…
I really enjoyed how the telepathic field really just kind of slowly ramped up existing character traits. Julian fancies himself a spy, Kira thinks she could do a better job running things, O’Brien is a loyal officer, Sisko still would rather be doing anything else, and Dax would naturally be inclined to reminisce given her multiple lives. The alien magnified these tendencies, but, at the end, even Sisko gives a nod to the fact that the incident wasn’t entirely implausible. Nicely done, indeed.
Jim’s Take: “Whose Side ARE you On?”
Rhonda’s Take: “Odo most revealed as he dissembles”
Matt’s Take: “Mirror, Mirror?”
