Foreign saviors and kids being kids

Ray’s Take on Episode 13: “The Storyteller”

Lieutenant Ray L.

Obviously, O’Brien has little love for Doctor Bashir.

Teenage girls have a reputation for being difficult to deal with, especially when not taken seriously.

The recurring monster reminds me of the Tarassque of Provence, the Evil Dead “Thing in the Woods,” and looks a bit like Yog-Sothoth. The name Dal’Rok makes me think of Tolkien’s Balrog.

The Bajorans seem to like foreign saviors.

Bashir really enjoys O’Brien’s predicament, while O’Brien tries to figure things out like a true engineer.

Everyone’s down on poor Rom, but Nog’s familiarity with the Rules of Acquisition came from someone. His insight proves of some use.

Kids being kids. And ending up in trouble like true kids often do.

O’Brien fails intentionally to get out of the Sirah position as much as to help the Apprentice.

An interesting episode and the idea of the power of community when united against an outside threat has some interesting social implications.
