Ray’s Take on Episode 9: “Move Along Home”

Jake and Benjamin having “the Talk” would be awesome, especially having to undo Ferengi influences…
Poor Bashir is underdressed. Quark as First Contact Ambassador makes for awkwardness.
I have to say, the station models always impress me.
Cross Quadrant value systems would naturally vary.
Dr. Bob Dillon would have loved the game play. That was an interesting class, right?
[Editor’s note from Jim: Yes! Technically, we both graduated from Starfleet Academy. I have the diploma to prove it!]
A random singing little girl isn’t creepy at all. Being forced to sing must have been frustrating and humiliating.

This episode exemplifies how cagey and shrewd Quark is. He learns quickly and accurately makes quite the intuitive leap. Impressive.
Kira has no patience for games. Odo points out that he’s not Starfleet. Those two have much in common…
Bashir’s attempt at cover is hilariously ineffective.
Quark has a conscience. The crew are all ready to choose sentiment over command decisions. Even though it was just a game, and the episode is widely panned, I enjoyed the insights into the nuance of the DS9 crew.
Personally, I find it more realistic and rewarding that an alien civilization would seem weird, have different principles, and be, perhaps, a bit silly. If you take a step back, I’m certain that Starfleet looks just as alien to the aliens. It’s just a matter of perspective.
Allamaraine!
