Do androids dream of electric sheep? If something can pass the Turing Test, then that something is sentient. So the holograms are made up of Omicron particles. You and I are also just made up of particles. I fail to see the difference. From a larger perspective, life can come in many forms. Perhaps that rock just wants to sit there. Perhaps water just wants to flow. Fire wants to consume fuel.
When you examine the characteristics of what we consider to be alive, they have counterparts in things and processes that we may not initially consider to be alive. Infinite diversity in Infinite combinations.
