Ray’s Take on Episode 2.9: “Second Sight”

Jake’s dream nicely sets up the manifestation of Fenna.

I’d imagine that being Commander of the station would be an effective pick-up line. 

“Fenna” is Dutch for “peace” and she offers Sisko some respite from the tragedy four years prior. Fennec foxes have large ears (not the double pointed ears Fenna has). Foxes tend to be rather furtive and red (mostly), so I’m guessing the name was intentional. 

Terraformers are the rockstars of the Federation. 

A love triangle involving a psychic projection makes for an odd dynamic. Sisko pumps Seyetik for information just by letting him brag about himself. Although, admitting that a few years of being with him tends to kill affection is uncharacteristically self aware.

Seyetik wants to go out with a Bang! “Fiat Lux”, indeed…

Seyetik seems a rather Faustian character, perhaps with no pact with Mephistopheles, but he did kind of trade his soul and a normal life in exchange for challenge, adventure, fame and women. Ironically, Goethe’s disputed, reputed last words were “More light”.

Sisko literally finds his dream girl, and unfortunately loses her.
