Ray’s Take on Episode 2.8: “Rules of Acquisition”
First off, I think Tongo looks thoroughly enjoyable. Is anyone surprised that Ferengi would consider drugging customers to make patrons drink more?
Grand Nagus Zek knows the importance of good grooming. Inconceivable! I truly wish he had said that when Pel’s gender was revealed.

The Dosi seem a bit aggressive. Inglatu (Brian Thompson) always plays a tough guy. Quark uses a bit of aggressive behavior to make his point. Quark certainly knows how to deal.
I’m pretty sure that a Ferengi would hesitate before picking up a strange set of prosthetic lobes.
The Dominion is mentioned yet again. Oh, the spoilers…
The awkward bedtime scene, even though the awkwardness is one sided, is brilliant. Pel must have been quite torn between her desire for Quark and her desire to maintain her deception.
Quark demonstrates that denial IS a healthy coping mechanism.

Quark out maneuvers Zek quite handily. Ferengi love is a truly beautiful thing.
Although the female disguising herself to make it in a male dominant society trope is well established, it is very well done, with intrigue and humor, here. The further insight into Ferengi culture creates a more complex portrait of a species that could easily come off as one dimensional. No wonder Dax enjoys Ferengi.
